Press release from developers looking to build 1,100 houses on fields in Leckhampton

PRESS RELEASE

New Plans Unveiled for Leckhampton Development

Developers promoting housing and other facilities will this month unveil new plans for the Land between Shurdington Road and Church Road at Leckhampton.

The site has been identified as a potential area for development by Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and Gloucester councils as part of their joint development plan – the “Joint Core Strategy”.

The new plans will reveal that the Leckhampton consortium is now proposing 1,100 dwellings at the site, having consulted on plans for 1,300 homes in Autumn 2012.

Over 40 per cent of the site will be given over to green spaces.

This will include allotments, play areas and protected public open space - the most popular facilities to emerge from last year’s consultation.

The plans will also include a new primary school, GP Surgery and other facilities.

Developers say the plans could create over 1,650 jobs in the local area.

Consultation events in Autumn 2012 – attended by just under 900 people – identified the key concerns as traffic, school places and flood alleviation. The consortium says it has worked to address these issues in the new proposals on display this month.

A planning application is expected in Spring 2013.

Public exhibitions will be held at the following venues and times:

·         Leckhampton C of E Primary School, 23rd February; 11am-7pm.
·         Main Hall, The Parish Church of St Paul Shurdington, 24th February; 1pm-6pm
