Gloucestershire County Council is consulting Cheltenham residents to find out their views on where extra primary school places should go. The County predicts that an additional 15 permanent places are needed. It also needs to find space for up to 75 temporary primary pupil places which are needed to meet the predicted demand for 2012/13.
This is due to a short term rise (or blip) in the birth rate. For the September 2012 intake the County need up to 3 additional temporary classrooms on up to three separate school sites. These temporary classrooms will need to remain in place for seven years to allow those pupils to move through each year group to secondary school.
There are numerous schools included in the consultation including Leckhampton School which is identified in the proposals as a potential site for either a permanent extra 15 places or a temporary classroom. St James’s is identified as a potential site for an extra 15 permanent places. Naunton Park is identified as a potential site for temporary accommodation. For more information and to give feedback online please visit the County Council’s web site http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/cheltenhamprimaryplaces The consultation is due to take place between 24th January – 18th February.
