This year, Cheltenham Borough Council is taking a different approach to the budget setting process and local residents are being urged to get involved. There are tough times ahead, with the five year financial projections showing a potential £4.7m budget gap if government support is cut by 25% over the next four years.
The council is holding a public consultation throughout August and September at various locations across the town to ask the people of Cheltenham to identify their priorities; where they want to see their council tax spent.
The exhibition stands will list the council’s expenditure and income across the main service areas and will ask the public, using sticky dots, to identify priorities and reductions in services, together with things that the council should stop doing. Residents will also have the opportunity to post other ideas and get involved in focus groups.
