Public to be asked about possible council tax proposals

Gloucestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner is to seek the public’s views on setting the council tax.  Businesses and other local organisations are also being canvassed.

Their response could have a bearing on the constabulary’s long term future. Policing in Gloucestershire is funded in two ways, through a grant from the Government and local council taxes

The Police Authority, which used to be responsible for the constabulary’s budget before it was disbanded, was already planning to raise its share of the council tax budget by 3.9% as part of its mid-term financial strategy. That was before the Government announced it was cutting its contribution to the cost of running the constabulary by almost two per cent.

You can have your say by contacting the commissioner online at budget@gloucestershire.police.uk or by writing to 1 Waterwells, Waterwells Drive, Quedgeley, Gloucester, GL2 2AN.
