A new timetable for delivering a planning strategy across Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury has been considered by Cheltenham Borough Council’s cabinet. Members will met on 21 September and decided that a new timetable and consultation programme for the ‘Joint Core Strategy’ (JCS) should be approved.
The Joint Core Strategy will help shape how Gloucester City, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Boroughs develop in the period to 2026, and will replace the local plans in each of the three areas. It will consider the location of new homes and businesses and how these will be supported by services and infrastructure including transport, roads and energy supplies. At the moment, work is on-going to establish housing and employment requirements, to be finalised in December this year.
The work - which takes on feedback from previous consultations and technical evidence - will form a strategy for meeting local development needs. This is an extensive piece of work; therefore a draft of the strategy will be available for people to view and comment on throughout summer 2011. Members of the public as well as businesses, community groups and other partners will be encouraged to take part.
These plans will be crucial in deciding the future of fields in Leckhampton and Shurdington on the edge of Cheltenham. Some are in Cheltenham's boundary with neighbouring fields in Tewksbury Borough.
